DID YOU KNOW?
UNICEF was originally named the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. The organization’s name was changed to the United Nation’s Children Fund after it was officially adopted as a permanent branch of the UN in 1954.
Its first executive director was Maurice Pate. Pate was UNICEF’S executive director from January 1947 until January 1965. Unfortunately, Pate died a few months later.
UNICEF is what it is today, because of Pate’s help and devotion. Maurice joined the organization on one condition, and that was that UNICEF assisted the children who suffered in the victorious countries of the Second World War, as well as the conquered ones.
